Augsburg is a city of 2000 years of history, cradle of German Renaissance depicted evidently by its surrounding architecture, a city of great faith in God and Religion with numerous devout temples reminiscent of what was once the most powerful influence in town. Augsburg has fortunately never had any aggressors destroy the place, therefore you can clearly see different eras rise and fall in some of the most significant buildings/monuments of the German history.
Architecturally, the city is so diverse: from one part you can still enjoy the vibes of Renaissance and Rococo with all the embroidered details naturally preserved over the centuries that resemble a drawing of that era, and on the other side the city has developed this giant modern industry, a reality check of the present.
Augsburg was considered to be one of the earliest modern cities in Germany; having a benign geographic position allowed the city to engage in various crafts and merchandise trades developing a flattering economic circulation nationally and internationally, which lead to traders becoming highly influential politically.
One of the most influential merchant families, the Fuggers built what we now today as the oldest social housing entity in the world used previously as the family’s business realm. Jacob Fugger aka the rich, was not only influential in the business associations in the country and abroad but also a great investor in the political events of the country.
From the outside, Augsburg gives an impression of a conventional and peaceful German small town yet many great names bound to change the worlds history came from the core of this city and are considered products of its deeds. Jacob Fugger definitely revolutionized the concept of trading yet, Leopold Mozart, Bertolt Brecht and Rudolf Diesel each left an unattainable mark up to this day in the field of music, poetry and engineering.
Living in a city overwhelmed with history and tradition is considered to be inspiring, especially in young age, one of the reasons why Augsburg is one of the most desired destinations to be studying abroad among international students.
