Note that most of the time a B1 is a minimum language requirement at German universities.

Depending on your study field and the purpose of your stay in Germany you will learn the German language in different contexts. If you’re an international student willing to study in Germany afterward, your course will revolve around your study fields, its terminology and concepts.

To find a suitable language school in Germany you must first check if the university of your choice has a language center incorporated on its campus to prepare incoming foreign students who don’t meet the university’s language requirements.

However, you’re free to decide to choose if you want to attend the university’s language courses or find a private course. Naturally, private courses provide better conditions and advantages than individual universities to attract more students who bring an invaluable benefit to their budget. Some of these advantages may include the variety of courses, the flexibility of the schedule and the study curriculum or even the location where classes will be held.

On the other hand, at language courses offered at university students study modules are fixed and students don’t have their word on the course’s structure. Furthermore, private language schools will engage you in additional extra-curricular activities to gain cultural experience and practice German in various environments.

But, alongside these advantages, private language schools in Germany don’t come cheap to you. There are some fees applied to you depending on the type of course you choose, the number of classes you want to take and similar preferences. Language centers on the other hand charge no fee for their students.

Yet, there are also few non-profit German language courses who offer online training for free for future students who lack the proper level of the German language. Usually, these centers offer tips and study materials for free to help you learn German effectively.

Select a suitable course

At this point, you should not hurry because there are several options for you. To select the most suitable one for you, first identify what type of learner you are and what are your needs. For example, you may want to attend a course where the schedule of classes adjusted according to your preferences or you want to have a personal tutor rather than participating a group work.

Language schools in Germany have given a serious thought to this matter and there are countless options for you. Today it is also possible to conduct such course entire online at any time you want.

That being said, you need to check if the price fits your budget because as more advantages the course includes the cost is likely to be higher.

Fill an application form

Now that you have found your favorite course is time to apply for a place. Typically the application can be made online by filling an online application form on the school’s website.

Usually, the application form requires you to fill your personal data, plus adding preferences regarding the type of the course, you’re willing to attend. You can set a few details like the location where would you like to attend the course,  the type of course (a group or a one-on-one training), or its schedule. Also, you can select a course according to what level of German language you’re willing to learn.

If your future university requires you a B1 knowledge in the German language than you can choose a course which prepares you for this level. Once you have completed this online application, you’ll be confirmed a place at the chosen German language school.

How much it costs to attend a German language school?

It depends. If you choose to attend the university’s language center course, then normally no fees will be applied to you. In contrast, private German language schools charge different fees.

Factors like the course provider, your chosen course and personal adjustment you ask for will indicate fees of your German language course. As you would expect, any additional preference and advantage you get are accompanied with a higher cost.  For example, if you want to have a personal tutor who will be ready to work with you at any time you’re free then surely it will cost you higher.
