For the 14th time in a row, Techniker Krankenkasse (TK) has been ranked as the best health insurance company in Germany by Focus-Money magazine, amongst 100 best insurance companies.
Since 2007, Focus-Money magazine, which is a German-language business magazine part of Hubert Burda Media, has been ranking German insurance providers based on the quality of the services they offer.
The magazine has been comprehensively comparing the best insurance companies and announcing the best every year, by rating their services in eleven different categories, including digital services, transparency, health promotion, bonus and benefit programs, additional services, etc.
In 2020’s ranking, TK was ranked as ‘excellent’ in seven out of 11 categories – digital services, transparency, special care, general services, additional benefits and services, excess plans, and bonus plans/advantage programmes.
It was also ranked as ‘very good’, which is the second-best mark, in health promotion and finances.
In particular, the company was highly ranked in the category of ‘digital services’ for offering:
- medical video chat
- online health promotion programs
- patient training and education offers
- the provision of apps for certain illnesses such as tinnitus
- search portals for doctors
The evaluation has been carried out by Focus-Money magazine in collaboration with experts from the independent Deutschen Finanz-Service Institut (DFSI). The analysis was based on over 400 individual questions, the results of which were used to determine which health insurance fund is the best in Germany for the year 2020. The assessment has advanced since 2007, though in essence, it remains the same.
Since 2017, Focus-Money has also evaluated the benefits of the statutory health insurance companies and services for students, thus confirming that for 2020 Techniker Krankenkasse (TK) is the best insurance company in Germany, in this area as well.
Since 5th March 2020, international students aged 29 and younger and insured with the Techniker Krankenkasse, that reach Germany before the beginning of their studies, are offered free travel health insurance coverage for up to 31 days by DR-WALTER German Student Insurance.
DR-WALTER, a private travel insurer, decided to offer this benefit to international students in order to ensure students that arrive before their studies start do not have to spend extra money on other insurance plans for the period of time they are in Germany before their insurance with TK is active.
